A couple of Mac questions

As you may know I have just gotten a new Macintosh, a 12 inch screen G4 iBook. It's beginning to grow on me, and I'm trying to figure out how to do various things. Here are the two that are most pressing right now:

1. I need a very basic Paint program. On Windows I use ImageReady. I just use it for cropping, improving color contrast, and typing caption text. It's got to be easy to use, and relatively fast loading. I used to use Canvas on the Mac. Maybe there's a Paint program on the hard disk? Haven't found one yet.

2. I need an equivalent of the Windows Remote Desktop Connection for server administration. If there's no way to do this on a Mac, then I could never leave my Windows machine at home.

I'm also looking for the equivalent of the Show Desktop toolbar icon. I often need to just clear all the apps out of the way to see the icons on the desktop.
